As part of their election campaign, the Trincomalee electoral candidates led by Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) leader R. Sampanthan on Tuesday visited internally displaced Tamil people currently lodged in the camps in Kiliveddi and Paddiththidal in Moothoor DS division, sources in Trincomalee said.
Hundreds of displaced Tamil families from Champoor, Choodaikkudaa, Kooniththeevu and Navaratnapuram in the High Security Zones after the eviction of LTTE in April, 2006, are lodged in these camps, who are not being allowed by Sri Lanka Army to return to their native villages in Chaampoor HSZ citing security reasons.
Talking to Mr. Sampanthan and other candidates, the IDP families narrated the ordeal they are enduring in the camps every moment.
They said their camps lack basic facilities such as sufficient medical needs, sanitation and water.
The IDPs requested the ITAK leader and the other candidates to work sincerely so that they immediately can return to their villages and start lead normal life again with self-respect and dignity.
