Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) on Monday began a 3-day election campaign by holding meeting in Tamil villages in Moothoor East, Verukal DS division, Moothoor DS division in Trincomalee district, party sources said.

Party leader and the chief candidate for Trincomalee district R.Sampanthan is leading the campaign along with other six candidates in the list.

The ITAK team first arrived in the historic Verukal Sri Siththiravelautha Swamy Koayil located along the Verukal River that divides the two districts Batticaloa and Trincomalee in the south.

Mr. Sampanthan and other candidates first took part in Pooja in the Koayil and then proceeded to hold election meetings, first of which was held at Uppooral, one of the remotest villages, in the morning today.

Another was held at Cheeniveli village while the third meeting was held at Ilangkaiththurai Mukaththuvaaram, according to party sources.
