The Rajapaksa government is going to try retired General Sarath Fonseka in a Military Court on several charges of conspiracy, according to different sources close to the government.
The government is accusing him hatching conspiracy to overthrow the Government and assassinate President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Sources said the government initiated this move against him under the normal laws of the land after the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) consulted Attorney General Mohan Peiris.
Gen. (retd.) Fonseka has outright denied any wrongdoing, saying the Government is doing all these to take revenge on him.
CID is also accusing the retired army chief of favoring his son-in-law, Danuna Tillekeratne, who benefited getting huge commissions for supplying military ware.
CID sources said they will question his son-in-law in the coming week.
