The main opposition, United National Party, has accused the elections commissioner (EC) of making confusing statements over the conduct of the just concluded presidential election.
The UNP parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara told journalists that the statements given by the commissioner immediately after the elections were contradictory with the statements given by him before elections.
"We are not being able to understand what the commissioner has said after the elections," he said, rejecting the claim of the Election Commissioner that election was held in free and fair manner.
The voting cards allegedly found dumped in Rathnapura will be tabled in the parliament, the UNP parliamentarian said, and the opposition is to file a petition in the Supreme Court against the result.
After the election, the EC said that he is totally satisfied with the electoral process in the presidential election where President Mahinda Rajapaksa was declared the winner.
Speaking to journalists in Colombo on Wednesday Dayananda Dissanayaka said, "I am totally satisfied with the voting and counting."
