US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in India on Fiday at the start of a five-day visit aimed at strengthening political and economic relations.
She landed in Mumbai, where she is scheduled to meet business leaders.
Mrs Clinton is expected to press for better ties between India and Pakistan, following last November's terror attacks in Mumbai.
Observers say she will argue that the current US alliance with Pakistan is not at India's expense.
Political analyst of the region are of the opinion that at present, the US focus is on Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the battle against Taliban insurgents in both countries.
But the Obama administration is keen to address concerns in India that Delhi's interests are being neglected.
